Aspiring nutritionist. Lover of sour pickles, sauerkraut and the occasional Sour Patch Kid. Skilled baker, butcher and candlestick maker, minus the last two. Has eaten everywhere from Australia to Tel Aviv, but thinks a homemade dish beats a fancy meal any day.

The blog’s title refers to a quote from German poet, playwright and theater director Bertolt Brecht: “grub first, then ethics.” While I will not delve too deeply into the ethics of the modern food system (“Food Inc.” does a good job of that), I strongly believe that the food we choose to eat reflects the way we treat ourselves and the people and nature around us.
